D One 2015.07.23 34568 www.segel bilder.de Nick Craig took 6 out of 7 line honours to win the 2015 D-One Gold cup in Travemunde, 23^rd – 26^th July. The town of Travemunde pulled out all the stops with fireworks, laser light shows, beach bars, and of course the compulsory sausage and beer stalls that come with such a prestigious German regatta. The weather was a mixed bag of flat calm, 30deg sunshine, to 40kt squalls with electrical storms.

FB IMG 1474210053174 The fleet enjoyed 2 races on Day 1 in a 15knt northerly Pela wind. Mario Rabbo ITA and Tomai Balazs HUN made the break away with Mario winning and Nick Craig GBR moving up to second after Tomai made a mistake at the finish. The wind was shifting more for the second race and the first beat saw gains and losses on either side. This time Nick and Mario moved ahead with Nick taking the bullet and Mario second. Tim Garvin GBR rounded out the top 3. With close racing throughout the fleet and some classic Lake Garda down wind rides everyone returned to shore to share their stories from the day over a beer and a plate of pasta at the club.

Travemunder woche staruday 27 07 2013 25761 1024x683 We are looking forward to the upcoming Gold Cup at the Travemunde Woche regatta on the 23rd - 26th July. This should be a super 4 day event set amongst the festival activities and entertainment that takes place throughout the week on the white sandy shores of the Baltic. On the water we are expecting fantastic, well organised racing with the added enjoyment of an evening of short races on the spectator course in the river. Happy New Year to all sailors. 2014 had proven to be another successful sailing season for the D-One class and 2015 looks set to be even better.

In 2014 both the Europeans and Gold Cup were sailed in a variety of tricky sailing conditions at Brightlingsea, UK and Alassio, Italy. Both were won by Nick Craig, positioning himself as the man to beat in 2015. Throughout the fleets close battles were won and lost on the tightest of margins showing the competitiveness of the class. The D-One International Association would like to thank all competitors and supporters over the last year for their contribution in helping the D-One family grow and prosper.

The 2015 season is hotting up to be another fun packed year. For those who can travel we have our first Gold Cup organised in Germany, during the renowned Travemunde Week regatta. The action should be exhilarating both on and off the water and a fantastic opportunity to show case the class at a large event of this kind. It can only push the class to bigger and greater things. For the Europeans we return to Lago del Garda, a spiritual home of the D-One, for what we hope will be a classic regatta in the stunning location. This event is sandwiched between the Czech nationals in Lipno and Austrian Nationals at Attersee. The UK nationals will be held in June this year at Highcliffe on the south coast, a popular training ground for many Olympian.

The D-ONE is a magic boat but the biggest asset of the class are its members, they are truly passionate about the sport, a real group of friends. Somehow, we have to manage to become a really big class, what about 100 D-ONEs racing together? To get there, we need you to join the international association, to support class events at home and abroad, to help develop the class….your input is key to making sure that our rules truly represent what you need to make the D-ONE a lot of fun….

Well, we have an important season in front of us, the Euros in the UK, where the class is growing fast and THE GOLD CUP in Alassio…. see you all there.
