The ITA D-One fleet made visitors from GBR and HUN very welcome indeed to beautiful Alassio in mid-May.
Tommaso Buzzi, our new ITA class secretary has posted a gallery of fantastic photographs available on this website at ITA National Championships 2016
Full report to follow, but congratulations to Mario Rabbo (ITA 135) on a dominant performance and championship win. Second place was Tamas Szamody (HUN 10), third Alesssandro Novi (ITA 101) and fourth Giles Chipperfield (GBR411).
Alassio lived up to all its reputations: practice day was gloriously sunny with 25kts from the South West and huge rolling waves. 16.0kts achieved on the D-One GPS! Then we had rain and 5kts from the North East, followed by a day of overcast light Easterlies. But then we finished with the most perfect of all sailing days : baking sun, force 3, tight racing. Sailing simply does not get better than this day.
Many thanks to an excellent race team from CNAM Alassio and to all our friends in the class who made the journey. We will all be back.
2016 is building up to be a fantastic year of D-One sailing. We have some great regattas lined up for you in some of the D-One's favourite locations and also some exciting new events.
This year the European Championships will once again be hosted by the Czechs on Lake Lipno at Yacht Club Jestrabi. It really is a fantastic base for sailng event. The club has a relaxed atmosphere with camping or motorhome facitilities right next to the launching beach with parking for cars and trailers also. The site has cabins available to hire with a small cafe and pub or there is a very reasonably priced hotel across the road. The race course is not far from the launch which means only a short time after you cross the finish line you can be relaxing with a beer and forget about that terrible start or vica versa you can be relaxing with a nice beer with only short distance to get out to the race course to make that terrible start (I think that is the normal Czech tradition)! A full social will be organised at the club with often a local brewary donating a keg of beer in the evening. The event will take place from 16th June to 19th June with training races organised on the thursday. NOR and registration is available here: http://www.camplipno.com/d-one-european-championship-2016
Rapallo,24-25 October 2015.
A wonderful event at the foot of the promontory of Portofino, in one of the most beautiful in the world, which is definitely worth a visit before or after the races.
The organization of the Club Nautico Rapallo has been busy at most to do well and accommodate 116 boats divided into nine classes, 420 - Fireball - Laser - Laser Radial - Laser 4.7 - Dinghy - Finn - Equipe - D-One.
The Inland nationals and UK end-of-season event held in light conditions was a 3-horse competition between Tyler Harmsworth (ex Phantom Champion) making his first appearance on the circuit, Ben Falat and Tim Garvin; these three were then joined by Paul Birbeck when it was a touch windier on Sunday; newcomer to the class and sporting that famous Pink Number-9 Gordon Davies, learned a lot about how to sail a D-One.

Santa Margherita Ligure: 19-20 September 2015.
It took place in the enchanting setting of Santa Margherita and the entire Gulf of Tigullio Nucci Novi Trophy 2015, from this year's competition for the class D-One.
Riva del Garda, 4-6 September 2015.
It ended last weekend the European Championship class "D-One", valid for the Italian crews as Italian Championship, organized by Fraglia Vela Riva del Garda.
The fleet enjoyed 2 races on Day 1 in a 15knt northerly Pela wind. Mario Rabbo ITA and Tomai Balazs HUN made the break away with Mario winning and Nick Craig GBR moving up to second after Tomai made a mistake at the finish. The wind was shifting more for the second race and the first beat saw gains and losses on either side. This time Nick and Mario moved ahead with Nick taking the bullet and Mario second. Tim Garvin GBR rounded out the top 3. With close racing throughout the fleet and some classic Lake Garda down wind rides everyone returned to shore to share their stories from the day over a beer and a plate of pasta at the club.
